Minister visits Kolkata dock

Kolkata, Oct. 1 The Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mr Mukul Roy, on Thursday visited Netaji Subhas Dock under the Kolkata Dock System. This was his first dock visit as the Union Minister.

Mr A Majumder, acting Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust, took the Minister around several berths, particularly the container berths, the lock entrance and the dry docks. Emphasising the need for improving the productivity of the berths, the Minister inquired about the scope for further mechanisation.

The modernisation of dry dock also came up for a review. The port authorities urged him to intervene to resolve the impasse over the proposed container terminal at Diamond Harbour, it is learnt.
