ISO certificate for Kinfra Film Park

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 30 The Bureau of Indian Standards has awarded the Kinfra Film and Video Park here the ISO 14001:2004 certificate for environmental management and system certification.

ISO 14001:2004 is a standard certification for meeting the Pollution Control Board’s regulations, an official spokesman said here on Tuesday.

The Kinfra (Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) park has the distinction of being among the first few industrial parks to receive the certification for environmental and safety standards. The certification will attest to the Kinfra park’s claim as a pollution-free facility operating in an environmentally sound manner.

The Kinfra Film and Video Park is among the first infotainment parks of its kind in the country laid out over 75 acres of landscaped area here. It caters to the needs of the industries in the entertainment and visual media.

The park houses modern processing labs, digital recording studios and outdoor and indoor shooting locations. The focus is on developing a profitable and mutually supportive cluster of companies engaged in the creative business.

The first phase of development has been completed. In the second phase, the park is developing infrastructure facilities for the animation and gaming industry.

Kinfra proposes to develop a “product-specific Special Economic Zone” with world-class infrastructure facilities for the animation and gaming industries.

This is expected to develop and strengthen the supply base of animation and gaming industries in the State through the concept of infrastructure sharing, the spokesman said.

SEZ approval

Kinfra has already obtained approval from the Government of India for setting up the SEZ over 15 acres. The development work is in progress. An international animation school is proposed to come up over 4.5 acres on the park.

A proposal seeking financial assistance of Rs 6.8 crore under the Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities scheme of the Government of India has been approved. Of this, Rs 2.28 crore has been released until now this year.

Kinfra has also identified Manipal Universal Learning Ltd, a unit of Manipal University, as a private partner who would contribute a third of the project cost to develop and operate this school as a private-public partnership project.
