Chennai, Sept. 29 TRS Forms and Services, a Chennai-based information enabled-service company, plans to set up a unit in Chennai to manufacture e-numbering scanners that can be used by educational institutions to automate the post examination process.

It has tied up with a Chinese company, Longwind System, to manufacture the e-numbering machines called FireEye in China and then transfer the technology to Chennai. The initial investment in the Chennai facility will be around Rs 3.5 crore, according to the company’s Managing Director, Mr N. Subramanian.

In the e-numbering process, the answer booklet (up to 90 pages) is directly fed into the machine. It will automatically print the dummy number, capture the student information and process it.

After valuation, the marks of the students can also be captured and processed automatically using the scanner. Around 60 booklets a minute can be e scanned by the machine, eliminating manual handling of post-examination process of numbering, he told newspersons.

The machine costs around Rs 4.5 lakh. The e-numbering market in South India is around Rs 5 crore a year.
