Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 25

The award instituted by the Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra for designing a house costing under Rs 1 lakh has gone to Mr Jonu John Thomas, an architecture student at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C). About 20 designs had come up for consideration at the competition that required participants to prepare innovative blueprints keeping in mind the cost, area, the time needed for construction and energy consumption. Announcing the award here on Wednesday, the Minister for Housing, Mr Benoy Viswom, said the winner would take home Rs 50,000.
