Hardware Phoenix to expand India presence Our Bureau Bangalore, Sept. 25 Phoenix Technologies, a player in PC 3.0 products, services and embedded technologies, plans to invest Rs 100 crore in the next few years on its newly launched ‘India Business Centre’ in Bangalore, which will support both local and global R&D projects. The company plans to create products in India that will cater to the needs of PC original equipment manufacturers and telecommunications carriers (operators) across the world. At a press conference in Bangalore, Phoenix’s President and CEO, Mr Woodson Hobbs, announced that Phoenix will expand its presence in India to drive innovation and expand into major emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region. The Phoenix India Business Centre expects to invest approximately Rs 100 crore over the next few years and double its headcount from 70 currently. Mr Hobbs said the division will focus on product development for mobile PCs to solve the “unmet needs of PC consumers globally.” New productsHe introduced products such as HyperSpace and FailSafe to PC OEMs and telecom operators in India. Phoenix HyperSpace is an operating environment for mobile computers (laptops, netbooks, nettops) that provides end users with the benefit of instant Web access and extended battery life.
