Strides Arcolab begins retail sales of flu drug

Bangalore, Sept. 25 Strides Arcolab Ltd has said it had begun retail sale of its anti-influenza A/ H1N1 drug Starflu.

It would be available in the 480 designated drug stores that have the licence to sell Schedule X or restricted-sale drugs. Strides has priced it Rs 460 a strip of 10 capsules of 75 mg each. Starflu is the generic version of the drug oseltamivir marketed by Swiss pharma major Roche.

Mr Nitin Ghadiyar, President – Strides Arcolab Ltd, said, “Strides has the requisite stocks of Starflu to adequately supply and service the retail demand for this drug.”

It is marketing Starflu through its Domestic Critical Care Division. This is in addition to the government supplies for which Strides has bid, and exports, Mr Ghadiyar said. The Bangalore-based company is one of the five domestic companies licensed to make restricted retail sale to treat A/H1N1 or `swine flu’ besides Roche.

The pandemic has claimed over 260 lives in the country.
