Performance Exports up by 30%, says Whirlpool Bindu D. Menon New Delhi, Sept. 25 Whirlpool of India Ltd has said that its export division has registered a 30 per cent growth in spite of the economic slowdown. The company, which initiated a slew of marketing campaigns to boost consumer sentiments, said in its annual report that its small business operating from an export-oriented unit (EOU) was closed down earlier this year due to changes in the sourcing strategy of the parent corporation. “The company’s export business has achieved a turnover of Rs 175 crore in 2008-09, which is about 8 per cent of our total turnover. There has been consistent demand from markets like Australia and New Zealand besides South East Asia and SAARC regions,” Mr Shantanu Dasgupta, Vice-President (Corporate Affairs and Strategy), said. He said the company has achieved its performance by focusing on price, product mix, costs, working capital, management and innovation. Beefing up rangeOn the product side, Whirlpool is beefing up its washing machine range by adding another line to the existing facility in Puducherry. The new facility will help us roll out high capacity (8 kg plus) top loader washing machines, he said. More Stories on : Performance | Washing Machines
