Chennai, Sept. 25 Sun TV Network’s subsidiaries, the six-year-old Kal Radio and South Asia FM, expect to break even next year.

Answering a query during the 24th annual general meeting, Mr Kalanithi Maran, Chairman and Managing Director, Sun TV Network, said the radio channels would start making profits from next year.

Kal Radio posted higher net loss of Rs 29.3 crore in 2008-09 compared to a loss of Rs 16.8 crore previously. While the total income of the company increased over three times to Rs 22 crore, total expenditure grew almost by two times to Rs 28.2 crore in 2008-09.

South Asia FM reported a 77 per cent higher loss at Rs 67 crore in 2008-09. Total expenditure doubled to Rs 40 crore and total income moved to Rs 13 crore in 2008-09. The reasons for higher losses were stated as higher interest cost, depreciation and amortisation of license fee

In a move to have better brand recognition with pan-India presence, the company is betting on the Red FM brand. Therefore, 39 stations of S FM channels have been rechristened as Red FM.
