Software Government - E-Governance States - Andhra Pradesh TCS wins Rs 140-cr deal from AP
Our Bureau Mumbai, Sept. 23 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has won a Rs 140-crore contract from the Andhra Pradesh Government to establish the largest State Wide Area Network (SWAN). The project will be implemented over the next five years on a ‘build, own, operate, and transfer’ model, according to a TCS release. SWAN is a collection of networks covering the entire State, providing data, voice and video services. It qualifies as core infrastructure under the National e-Governance Plan instituted by the Centre. The Andhra Pradesh project will see state headquarters connected to 1,088 mandals and district headquarters, according to Mr Sanjay Kumar, Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Technology Services. Once the project is commissioned, the network will enable the State Government to have video conferencing facility across government offices over VoIP (voice over IP) phones, he added. The network backbone will also carry various e-governance applications such as RTO, healthcare, education, municipality etc. This project will roll out in 12 months and TCS will maintain it for the next five years. Fifth winThis is the fifth SWAN project win for TCS in India. The company has already delivered similar ones in Tamil Nadu and Bihar and is in the process of completing yet another in Chhattisgarh. In the case of Andhra Pradesh, TCS will set up a network operating centre and helpdesk for round-the-clock monitoring of the facility and services, said Mr Tanmoy Chakrabarty, Vice-President. In the next three years, the company expects the government space to account for 10 per cent of its revenues. The TCS scrip was down 1.6 per cent to close at Rs 591.25.
