Bankers’ pay

Wages to bankers have, of late, become a favourite topic of discussion without any positive progress in the matter. When many major Western economies literally collapsed due to bank failure, Indian banks stood tall and supported all productive endeavours of the Government.

Look at the progress chart of the public sector banks in financial inclusion, operationalisation of CBS, spread of ATM network, implementation of new Basel II norms, stabilisation of integrated risk management system, lending to SME sector, reduction in NPAs, support to Government-sponsored schemes, and linkages with SHGs, all of which strongly reflect the efforts put in by the PSU bank employees at all levels.

Despite various adversities, bank staffers have given of their best and this is indeed an opportune time for the Government to reciprocate with a good gesture by acceding to the genuine wage demands of the employees.
