Mr Henning Kagermann Our Bureau Bangalore Sept. 22 Wipro Technologies, the global IT services arm of Wipro Ltd, has enlarged its footprint in the United Kingdom by expanding its development facility in Reading and opening an office in London. The company also appointed Dr Henning Kagermann, former Chief Executive Officer of German business software maker SAP to its board of directors. Welcoming Dr Kagermann on the Wipro board, the Chairman, Mr Azim Premji, said, “He brings in a unique combination of academic perspective, technical expertise and leadership experience.” Dr Kagermann is currently President of Acatech (German Academy of Science and Technology). With the latest appointment, seven of the 11 board members will be independent directors. Dr Kagermann is also a member of the supervisory boards of Deutsche Bank AG, Munich Re, Deutsche Post and Nokia Corporation. Hub of operationsWipro’s expanded facility at Reading will be used to build centres of excellence, deliver customer projects and for training purposes, said a company press release. The office in London will be the company’s headquarters for the UK operations. “Taking on the ownership of the facility at Reading is the first of its kind for Wipro overseas,” said Mr Laxman Badiga, Chief Information Officer. “The expansion of development facility and opening of office in London reinforces our commitment to the region.” Wipro earns about 26 per cent of its IT services revenues from Europe. The UK is one of its key markets in Europe with a large customer base. Thefacilities at Reading and London will be the hub for recruitment and training of local staff and will enable the company to offer onsite development premises to more customers, said Mr Ayan Mukerji, head of Wipro’s Europe operations.
