Icrisat joins climate change initiative

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Sept. 21 The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) has signed the Copenhagen Communiqué on climate change, joining a host of institutes that have endorsed the initiative.

The Communiqué is an initiative of the UK-based Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group (CLG). The other signatories include Adidas, Cable & Wireless plc, Cathay Pacific Airways, HSBC and Procter & Gamble.

DEFINITIVE STATEMENT

“It is set to become the definitive statement from the international business community ahead of the crucial United Nations negotiations on climate change in Copenhagen in December 2009,” said Dr William Dar, Director-General of Icrisat, who signed the treaty.

The treaty called for an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change that responded to the scale and urgency of the crises facing the world today.

“The CLG will launch the Communiqué to the international media next week and hand over the same to Mr Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, in New York ahead of the Copenhagen Summit,” he said.
