Kerala allows retail sale of Tamiflu

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 20

The Kerala Government has allowed the sale of Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) tablets used for treating Influenza A (H1N1) as a Schedule X drug through medical shops and pharmacies in private hospitals. However, the current system of Government supplies will continue at least for the time being since processing of drug license applications could take three to four weeks, an official spokesman said here on Saturday.

Hospitals and pharmacies may apply to the Assistant Drugs Controller for the Schedule X drug licence. Not all druggists have the licence to sell Schedule X drugs, which are typically narcotic.
