Our Bureau

New Delhi, Sept. 17 Manipal Education announced the formation of a new joint venture with City & Guilds, a UK-based provider of work-related assessment and qualifications.

Manipal Education will have 51 per cent stake in the new joint venture while City & Guilds will hold the balance. The new joint venture will be called Manipal City & Guilds Skills Training Pvt Ltd and it will provide skill-based qualifications under the name of “IndiaSkills”.

IndiaSkills will provide training and qualifications for industries such as retail, hospitality, banking and English language.

Speaking at the launch of the joint venture, Mr Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, said, “One of the biggest challenges our nation faces today is the mismatch between the available skills and the required skills in terms of quantity, quality and relevance. In order to sustain the high rate of economic growth through inclusive growth we need to pay serious attention to skill development in our country with an eye on emerging skills.”

IndiaSkills Vocational Training Centres will begin opening in October across India.

The centres will enter into an operating agreement to deliver training according to the benchmarks laid down in conjunction with City & Guilds.
