The tender document issued by CoC states that the parking facility to be constructed in the 3,000-sq.m. land at the Broadway bus stand will have 610 equivalent car space. According to the tender document, the car population in the city grew by more than 10-fold to 1.7 million units in 2005, and is still growing rapidly. The parking demand during peak hour increased to 13,000 passenger car equivalent units against the available authorised parking lot of 5,100 units. Therefore, the only solution is to resort to automatic multi-level car parking facilities. Initially, the project will come up in Broadway bus stand. Based on the success, the facility will be extended to other areas. Bids invitedTowards this, CoC is inviting proposals from private developers. The builder will be given rights for 20 years – two years for construction and the rest for operating it. Parking fee will be prescribed by the Corporation. To facilitate revenue, the operator CoC will not permit paid parking within the 500-metre radius of the planned facility. In addition to offering parking facility, the builder could utilise the additional space for commercial activities. The bidder can enter into an agreement with the end-users for the purpose of undertaking commercial activities in the commercial facility without sub-leasing the area.
