Alliances & Joint Ventures States - West Bengal Swissotel in pact for 5-star hotel Our Bureau Kolkata, Sept. 9 Swissotel, the Swiss hotel group running hotels in 30 locations across the world, has entered into a management contract with Ambuja Realty for running a five-star business hotel near the city. The hotel, expected to come up by January at Rajarhat near the Kolkata Airport adjacent to Ambuja’s proposed shopping mall, City Centre II due to open shortly, was being set up by the Ambuja group at an investment of Rs 100 crore , Mr Harshvardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Realty, said here on Wednesday. The hotel, to be named after the Swissotel brand, would be the first five-star hotel to come up in Kolkata in the last seven years. Swissotel, he said, had entered into a 10-year contract for running the 147-room hotel on a fee-based revenue model. While the Ambuja Group would be open to tying up with Swissotel for more hotels in the future, its forthcoming resorts would be run by the Group itself, Mr Neotia said. Mr Meinhard Huck, President, Swissotel, said, “We are in the lookout to enter into similar contracts with multiple partners for running a couple of more hotels by next year.” The company was currently evaluating opportunities for tie-ups in places like Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, he said, adding that it also planned to roll-out its other hotel brand, Fairmont, in Hyderabad and Jaipur. The company would roll out some of its restaurant brands such as Café Swiss at its Kolkata hotel, which among other Swiss cuisines, would also offer Swiss chocolates, Mr Huck said.
