Infrastructure Ness sets up SEZ in Bangalore

The 60,000-sq-ft facility, capable of accommodating 600 engineers, will serve the company’s global customers. “We are investing in creating capacity ahead of growth,” Mr Sachi Gerlitz, President and CEO, Ness Technologies Inc, said. Commenting on the market, Mr Gerlitz said the US seemed to be getting out of crisis, while Europe is still struggling. The financial services vertical that was the most affected by the crisis seem to be leading the recovery, he said. “The pricing pressure has stopped and we see a healthy pipeline of new projects,” Mr Gerlitz said, adding the company believed in being prepared before the economy picks up. The Nasdaq-listed firm has located about 3,000 of its 7,800 global workforce in India, which mainly builds software products for other companies such as Quintiles, IBM, Philips and AT&T. The company earns about a fifth of its revenues from the product engineering segment, while systems integration and application development accounts for some 80 per cent. In the first phase of SEZ, Ness has invested about Rs 5 crore ($1 million) in creating 30,000 sq ft facility, that has been made operational. Ness, which has 10 delivery centres across five cities — Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, plans to increase its headcount to 5,000 in India over the next few years, Mr Gerlitz said.
