The companions during the final journey

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Sept 3 For Mr P. Subramanyam, a 1983-batch IAS officer, who was among the five killed in the helicopter crash in Nallamala forests, rural development had been a passion ever since his college days.

With a modest background, Mr Subramanyam did his MA in Economics from Sri Venkateswara University and went on to complete his Doctorate in Rural Development.

“He is an upright officer with a fair vision and ideas on what needs to be done for the uplift(ment) of the poor. He (was) never afraid of calling a spade a spade. Dr Reddy must have liked this attribute,” Mr P. V. Ramesh, Commissioner for Industries (Andhra Pradesh) and a year junior to the deceased Special Secretary to the Chief Minister in the Service, told Business Line.

Solomon Wesley

The family of Mr Solomon Wesley, 45, Chief Security Officer of Dr Reddy, was devastated ever since it heard the news of the missing helicopter. The family was in grief as Mr Wesley’s father passed away only last month. Though aware of the death of their father, his children, Kamal (8) and Lekhana (6) were too young to understand the severity of the blow.

Mr M. S. Reddy, 45, who is on a deputation from the Army, in fact was handpicked by Dr Reddy. An expert pilot, Mr Reddy had a history of taking up daring sorties in the thick jungles of Nallamala and Dandakaranya to rescue anti-Naxal security personnel.

Mr Reddy, who hailed from Brindavanpur of Nalgonda district, is survived by wife Kiranmayi, a son and a daughter.

Mr S.K. Bhatia, an Indian Air Force officer, too was on deputation. He hailed from New Delhi. “He was one of the best pilots we had,” Mr S. N. Reddy, an aviation expert, told Business Line.
