CII agri council’s 10-point agenda

New Delhi, Aug. 31

A CII delegation led by Mr Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Chairman, CII National Council on Agriculture, submitted a 10-point agenda for policy intervention to Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture, on Monday. As per the chamber, the recommendations aim to create wealth in the farm sector by empowering the rural population and creating economic capacities at the village level. The 10-point agenda focuses on raising farm productivity, linking agriculture to the markets, st rengthening the supply chain management, besides private investment in agriculture. It also covers the upcoming Goods and Services Tax (GST), agricultural exports, dairy and farm mechanisation. The agenda also talks about giving more encouragement to the commodity exchange and forward markets as tools of risk mitigation. CII has also asked the Minister to look into the multiplicity of taxes and levies imposed by States on the movement of goods within the country. These, it says, hamper the national integration of the agricultural markets.
