Dairy & Dairy Products Butter supply may improve by mid-Sept Our Bureau Pune, Aug. 31 It may be a while before the availability of processed salted butter, which has seen 15-30 per cent shortage in August, returns to normal with the makers of Amul expecting supply to improve by mid-September. Though milk supply at the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation is 12 per cent up over the same period last year at 80 lakh litres a day, there has been an increase in the sales of liquid milk this year, Mr R.S. Sodhi, Chief General Manager, told Business Line. This August, the Pune depot received a mere 33 per cent of the normal supply of 140 tonnes, causing the product to disappear from the shelves of almost all stores. 15% output drop“Compared with last year, the butter production in August was down 15 per cent,” he said, adding that the situation will improve by mid-September. As Amul claims a market share of 90 per cent in this segment, the production here has a major impact. Asked whether the drought conditions in the country will have an impact, Mr Sodhi said, “It may have an impact next summer.” More Stories on : Dairy & Dairy Products
