New Projects States - Tamil Nadu Lanxess doubling Madurai plant capacity
Dr Joerg Strassburger Our Correspondent Madurai, Aug. 30 Lanxess India Pvt Ltd (LIPL), a subsidiary of Lanxess Deutschland Gmbh, Germany, is expanding its plant in Madurai to more than double the production capacity of its material protection products. Further, to improve the quality standards of the manufacturing processes, upgradation of the plant has been taken up, said Dr Joerg Strassburger, Managing Director and Country Representative, LIPL. The parent company is engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and speciality chemicals with sales of Euro 6.58 billion in 2008 and is spread across 23 countries with 44 production sites. The Madurai plant manufactures leather chemicals, speciality rubber and material protection products and has an application laboratory for leather chemicals. The material protection products business unit markets a range of preservatives and biocides for almost all industry sectors, including wood protection, paints and coatings, construction, health and personal care products, and beverages. “The products from this plant will enable us to provide more benefits to our customers in the surface coating and paint industries,” said Dr. Strassburger at a recent press meet here. By the first quarter of 2010, a new Ion Exchange Resins plant and rubber chemicals plant, relocated from the Thane site will be commissioned in Jhagadia, Gujarat. With good infrastructure and low-cost of production, the plant will give the company a competitive edge globally, he said. The expansion will help meet the demand in the Asia-Pacific region and is part of its global strategy to solidify its presence in India, added Dr Michael Gerle, Asia-Pacific Regional Manager for Industrial Preservation, Material Protection Products Business Unit, LIPL. Dr Strassburger announced on the occasion, a donation of Rs 6 lakh for three years to three schools in Madurai for imparting life skills to the Aparajitha Foundation in support of its ‘Thalir Thiran Thittam’ programme.
