Nod for village electrification programme
New Delhi, Aug. 28
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has
given its nod for continuation of Remote Village
Electrification Programme of the Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy during the remaining period of the
Eleventh Plan. The total outlay for the programme has
been estimated at Rs 867.89 crore during the current plan
period. Briefing newspersons after the CCI meeting here,
Mr Jaipal Reddy, Minister for Urban Development, said
"the programme aims to provide renewable energy based
lighting/basic electricity facilities with 90 per cent
central financial assistance to those unelectrified villages
and hamlets which are not going to be covered under the
Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana due to
infeasibility of grid extension." The programme is
expected to cover 10,000 remote, unelectrified villages
and hamlets and benefits around one million households,
the Minister said. - Our Bureau
