Jet Air, pilots’ union called for talks

Shubhra Tandon

Mumbai, Aug 27 Jet Airways and its pilots’ union National Aviators’ Guild (NAG) have been asked to attend conciliation proceedings under Section 12 of Industrial Disputes Act 1947, on August 31 at office of the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Mr A.K. Agarwal.

The call for proceedings came after NAG, the newly registered pilots’ union of Jet Airways, sent a strike notice to the airline earlier this week.

The union is demanding reinstatement of two pilots who were dismissed by Jet. The strike is scheduled for September 7, when the 15-day notice period expires.

Mr Agarwal has asked both the parties to attend the “joint discussions either in person or through a duly authorised representative” on the said date to “bring about an amicable settlement of this dispute”.

The letter also draws the attention of the parties to the “obligations imposed under Sections 22 (1), 22 (2) and 33 of Industrial Disputes Act, 1947”.
