New Delhi, Aug. 25 Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) is offering its Zen-less new Estilo at introductory price of Rs 3.12 lakh to Rs 3.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) depending on the variant.

The car had once sold 3,000 units a month. It is being brought back with the Maruti’s K-series petrol engines, promises 18.2 km a litre, and is the second Maruti Suzuki car to be Bharat Stage IV compliant.

According to Mr Mayank Pareek, Executive Office, Marketing and Sales, the Estilo, in its new avatar was a stylish proposition — indicated by its name meaning Style in Spanish — distinct from the Zen’s sporty DNA.” The popular Zen was launched in 1993.

The company will upgrade all its cars to make them BS IV compliant to meet the Government’s April 2010 deadline in the top 13 cities, said Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

With the exception of the Maruti 800, all other cars will be upgraded, either by replacing the engines, or through improvements and after treatment of gas. MSIL sells 2,500 of Maruti 800s in a month, and half of these currently are sold in the top cities.

Mr Nakanishi said the sales target for the current financial year was 8 lakh vehicles. It was looking forward to the festive season sales pick, which, he hoped, would, absorb the impact of a disappointing monsoon.

Sales of India’s largest car maker growing at 13 per cent in April-July months, ahead of the industry average of six per cent, and was hoping to outgrow the industry. MSIL attributed the current demand to the festive season, but was waiting for post-October sales to decide if there had really been a revival in demand.
