‘Incredible India’ heads for Oscar, Grammy


‘Incredible India’ will also be visible at more high-brow events such as the World Economic Forum in Davos and the G-20 Summit.

New Delhi, Aug. 16 ‘Incredible India!’, the award winning brand campaign of the Ministry of Tourism, will be buying advertising spots during the Oscar, Grammy and BAFTA Award Functions on E! Entertainment Channel this financial year. The money for the spots is to come out of the Ministry’s Rs 250-crore budget for the year.

The Incredible India Brand is also set to be the belle of the ball ‘Hollywood Bowl’ an International Event, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, to be held in Los Angeles in September.

According to an official release, at about the same time road-shows will be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

‘Incredible India’ will also be visible at more high-brow events such as the World Economic Forum in Davos and the G-20 Summit. The Ministry of Tourism says it will “tactically and judiciously” place the Incredible India spots in 2009-10 to woo tourists.

Euro sports

Ads will also be released on Euro Sports during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and during the broadcast of similar big events on other European channels.

Branding exercises are being finalised with the premium travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveller, timed for the World Travel Mart.

Last year 5.37 million foreign tourists visited the country, of whom 8.2 lakh came from the US, followed by 7.8 lakh from the UK.

According to official data, the number of tourists from the UK though declined by 1.1 per cent compared to 2007, and the number of American tourists grew 3.6 per cent, lower than the average growth of 5.6 per cent.

On the other hand, there was a 20.9 per cent jump in tourist arrivals from West Asia.

The numbers from Eastern Europe, Central and South America and South-East Asia were also up significantly.

After the US and the UK, most number of tourists come from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Canada followed by France, Germany and Japan.
