`Extend relief on farm loans'

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 13

The Kerala State Cooperative Bank has been `booking losses' on agricultural loans disbursed due to Nabard's (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) stand on interest relief. In a communication addressed to the Centre, the Minister for Cooperation, Mr G. Sudhakaran, said Nabard has insisted that the interest relief on one-year loans would be limited to loans sanctioned during April. The State Cooperative Bank has booked losses of Rs 14 crore during 2008-09 on this count alone, he said. He requested that interest relief be extended to loans sanctioned throughout the year depending on individual tenors. - Our Bureau
