Hyderabad, Aug. 11 IT majors are issuing advisories to employees to cut or avoid travel to countries and Indian cities with incidences of A(H1N1) influenza.

Google, which recently shutdown one of its facilities in India for two days to sanitise the premises, has set up an intranet site where it is publishing information on the influenza and the precautionary mesaures.

“We are not giving specific advisories to our employees. But we are telling them how to take care in the site, which is accessible to our employees globally,” a Google representative told Business Line.

Infotech Enterprises, a leading player in engineering and geo-spatial services, has asked its staff to avoid travel abroad. “We asked them to cut travel unless it is extremely important,” an Infotech spokesman told Business Line.

Infosys, Accenture, Wipro and HSBC too have issued dos-and-don’ts lists to employees.

Meanwhile, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, has convened a high-level meeting on Wednesday to discuss the outbreak of H1N1 and steps to be taken to prevent the spread.

A Union Health Ministry team would come to Hyderabad to take stock of the situation and suggest further measures. The State has registered 76 flu-positive cases and declared 72 of them treated.

With Pune and Chennai reporting a large number of cases, the State Government decided to extend screenings to bus stops and railway stations. The Health Department officials have screened about three lakh passengers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

The State would also launch awareness programmes in schools in the districts of Anantapur, Mahaboobnagar, Prakasam, Nalgonda, Vizianagaram and Nellore.

Some schools in the twin cities have started sending mailers and SMSes to parents asking them to take precautions.
