Fertiliser unloaded at New Mangalore Port

A.J. Vinayak

Mangalore, Aug. 11 The unloading of fertiliser cargo from the ship m.v. Arcadia Progress – which was affected due to strike at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) – was completed on Monday.

Mr Shekhar Pujari, President of the Association of New Mangalore Port Stevedores, told Business Line that the unloading of 32,461 tonnes of fertiliser cargo meant for supply in Karnataka was completed at around 6 p.m. on Monday.

The ship, which arrived at New Mangalore on July 31, had discharged 1,661 tonnes of cargo on that day.

On August 1, NMPT implemented the national industrial tribunal award on rationalisation of the manning scale and deployment of labour in the port. Opposing this, the registered cargo handling workers had begun indefinite strike from that day.
