CVC for quick proceedings in graft cases

Our Bureau

Hyderabad Aug. 10

Mr Pratyush Sinha, Central Vigilance Commissioner, has suggested amendment of rules to hasten disciplinary proceedings in corruption cases, as these were qualitatively different from those of criminal misconduct.

“We want disciplinary proceedings to be wrapped up quickly so that punishment can be delivered quickly,” he told presspersons on the sidelines of the sixth anniversary celebrations of Vigilance Study Circle, Hyderabad.

He pointed out that a proposal to amend the law for confiscating properties of corrupt officials was under the Government’s consideration.

He expressed concern over the increasing silence in civil society on corruption.

He said the CVC was able to suggest action in more number of complaints received from “whistle blowers” rather than normal complaints.

Earlier, delivering the key-note address at the anniversary celebrations, Mr Sinha expressed concern at the custom of regarding a person having money as respectable, irrespective of the manner and means by which the wealth was acquired.

There was also no mention of fighting corruption in the manifestos of political parties during the recent elections.

In order to promote excellence in the field of vigilance last year, CVC had presented vigilance excellence awards. During its monthly meetings last year, topics such as error-free procurement, anatomy of corporate frauds, handwriting related frauds and other vigilance procedures were discussed.
