Birds swarm a kole land near Kochi. A comprehensive study on the kole fields in the State is being conducted by the Centre for Economics and Social Studies, Hyderabad, to find ways to improve the productivity of the kole fields and conserve their fragile environment. It will focus on the environmental problems faced by the unique 30,000-acre stretch of wetlands, which is rich in biodiversity, and their linkage to the livelihood of lakhs of people.
