Renewable energy

This has reference to the article “Renewed thrust on alternative energy” (Business Line, July 30). From a national standpoint, India’s stand on emission reductions is correct.

But if one looks at the billion plus population of India, you can see a “developed India” as well as a “third world India” in terms of energy intensity. The focus should be on reducing the energy intensity of ‘first-world Indian’. It would be interesting to compare this figure with the average of developed economies.

People need to be educated about conservative energy use to effect a reduction in consumption. There is a misconception that all electricity is green energy. But tonnes of coal and other fossil fuels are burnt to produce power, polluting environment.
