Forex gains help Graphite profts

Kolkata, Aug. 1

Graphite India posted lower income from operations at Rs 244.51 crore during the quarter to June 30 against Rs 286.09 crore in the corresponding quarter in the previous fiscal. Net profit, however, was higher at Rs 45.18 crore against Rs 33.36 crore because of higher sales realisation, forex gains and reduction in operational cost. Mr K.K. Bangur told Business Line that company production of graphite electrodes had been adjusted in line with a decline in demand. He said the Powmex would expand its range and size of special steel items. The first quarter results included numbers from Powmex Steel division consequent to its merger with the company from February 1. - Our Bureau
