Delhi Metro mishaps

The analysis of the repeated mishaps at the Delhi Metro Rail project sites stressts basic design faults and poor quality material. Global tenders are floated and, after careful analysis, a selection is made and the project awarded to an eligible bidder.

Even though all the prospective bidders give a performance guarantee, more often than not, this remains only on paper because the time-line is not monitored and, to earn more profit, poor quality materials are used. Then where is the control mechanism to assure value for money and safety?

It is high time the DMRC and the other metro rail projects proposed in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai take these lessons to heart to avoid repeated recurrence of such mishaps.
