Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 28 Driven by a 22.5 per cent growth in its hair-care business, Dabur India Ltd reported a 23 per cent growth in net sales in its Q1 2009-10 results announced on Monday.

Dabur’s net sales in Q1 stood at Rs 742.66 crore compared to Rs 603.98 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Dabur’s net profit for Q1 stood at Rs 91.39 crore (Rs 70.65 crore), a growth of 29.4 per cent.

The company’s hair-care business showed the highest growth this quarter, closely followed by its food business, which grew 21.6 per cent, and toothpastes, which grew by 20.5 per cent this quarter. Other sectors, such as health supplements and baby and skin care, too showed good growth.

“What’s most encouraging is the fact that this growth is entirely volume-driven, and we are confident that our volume growth will continue to remain robust in both urban and rural areas in the coming months too,” said Mr Sunil Duggal, Chief Executive Officer, Dabur India Ltd.

Overseas business

Dabur’s overseas business continued to grow at a rapid pace with the division recording an impressive growth of 52.9 per cent.

“Sales in the Gulf region reported 65 per cent growth, while Dabur Egypt witnessed an over 63 per cent growth during the quarter. The South Asian markets too performed well with sales in Bangladesh surging 80 per cent and Nepal 62 per cent during the first quarter of 2009-10. The quarter also saw Dabur enter the three new overseas markets – Uzbekistan, Guinea and Belarus,” said Dabur India Ltd’s Group Director, Mr P.D. Narang.
