Rice production may fall by 50%: A farmer preparing his agricultural fields in Topatoli village in Morigaon in Assam on Sunday. The State Agriculture Department has sought help from the public asking them to face the drought-like crisis. The Assam Agriculture Minister, Mr Pramila Rani Brahma, informed the media that the rice production may fall by 50 per cent if the conditions do not improve. The agriculture department has taken up a contingency plan for pre-rabi and rabi crops. The scheme will cover five lakh hectares of land which is utilised for sali crops. The State had recorded 40 lakh tonnes rice production last year against the demand of 39.5 lakh tonnes. The State has already recorded 34 per cent deficit rai
