Exim Policy New foreign trade policy to be unveiled next month Our Bureau New Delhi, July 23 The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Anand Sharma, has said that a new foreign trade policy addressing the problems faced by exporters would be unveiled in the second half of August. Speaking on the sidelines of FICCI’s Massmerize 2009, a summit on the FMCG sector, Mr Sharma said, “We are moving ahead in consultation with the Finance Ministry to address the problems faced by the exporting community.” Consultations were on with stakeholders to make exports attractive. “One of the ways would be the diversification of markets.” Mr Sharma pointed out that the Government’s stimulus packages have resulted in the growth of six core sectors which recorded a 6.5 per cent growth in June compared with 5.1 per cent in June 2008. He said, “It is gratifying to note that the core sector industries have recorded growth during the last three months. “The 6.5-per-cent growth in June has been powered by improved production in cement, coal, crude oil and electricity. This is a clear indication that the economic stimulus packages are yielding results.” The Minister also urged the delegates at the summit to make special efforts to give a push to the food processing and agro-based sectors to generate income and demand.
