Cement Cement, sugar biz boost Dalmia net in Q1 Our Bureau Chennai, July 21 Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 58.57 crore on a total income of Rs 557.60 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009. During the corresponding period in the previous year, the company reported a net profit of Rs 50.46 crore on a total income of Rs 421.75 crore. The performance during the quarter has improved with realisation from cement and sugar business improving, said a press release from the company. Cement production from Kadapa plant at Andhra Pradesh has stabilised and the grinding unit at the Ariyalur plant in Tamil Nadu is now operational. The release quoting Mr Puneet Dalmia, Managing Director, Dalmia Cement, said the future for cement industry is buoyant with the revival of demand in rural sector, and the infrastructure projects in the pipeline in south India likely to have a positive impact. Efforts are on to control the spiralling fuel and freight charges. The company will commission a 27-MW plant at Ariyalur by the third quarter of this fiscal. More Stories on : Cement
