Aerens Gold Souk plans SEZ for gems & jewellery

Sankar Radhakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram, July 21 Aerens Gold Souk Group plans to set up a special economic zone (SEZ) for jewellery and gems in Gurgaon.

Mr Ashish Gupta, Vice-Chairman and Joint Managing Director, Aerens Gold Souk Group, told Business Line that the facility, with 5.5 million sq ft of built-up space, will be the largest gem and jewellery SEZ in North India.

The company recently received approval for the project and will start work soon, he added.

Also on the cards is a gem and jewellery park in Kochi, he said. Jewellery manufacturers who set up shop in this park will, however, focus on the domestic market, he added.

With interests in realty, retail, entertainment and hospitality, the Aerens Gold Souk Group is also setting up a chain of large format ‘Gold Souk’ and ‘Gold Souk Grande’ malls across the country. The tenant mix in each mall varies, but all are anchored by a ‘jewellery zone’ that houses leading jewellery retailers, Mr Gupta explained.

It has malls in Gurgaon, Jaipur and Ludhiana. Its fourth mall, a Gold Souk Grande, will open in Kochi in a few months, he said.

The company is also building malls in Chennai and Indore. The Chennai mall is scheduled to open next year, he added.

The Gurgaon-based company is expanding its hospitality portfolio, with three new properties — in Jaipur, Kochi and Indore — on the cards. It currently has a hotel as part of its mall in Ludhiana, Mr Gupta said.

In Kochi, it plans a 200-room hotel as part of the gem and jewellery park, while in Indore it plans a hotel as part of its proposed mall, he added.
