SKF India net slumps 52%

Mumbai, July 20

SKF India, which makes bearings and seals, has reported a 52 per cent fall in net profit at Rs 17.67 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 from Rs 36.65 crore in the same period last year. The economic downturn and the one-time restructuring cost of Rs 16.8 crore due to downsizing of workforce at the company's Pune plant have been cited as the major reasons for this decline. Net revenue at Rs 379.9 crore represents a 12 per cent drop from Rs 431.2 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. However, net profit and revenue improved on a quarter-on-quarter basis by 20 per cent and 22 per cent respectively over the preceding quarter. The company has, however, said that it sees revival in the industry. - Our Bureau
