SAIL steel for BEML wagons

Bangalore, July 18

Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) and Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the design, development and production of 100-tonne wagons for the high-speed freight corridors planned by the Railways. A BEML release said that its Bangalore complex would design, develop and supply the wagons to the Railways.

SAIL's Salem Steel Plant (SSP) would supply the entire steel requirement as per the MoU of July 8. The introduction of SS wagons will imply economy, low tare weight, lower life-cycle cost and higher payload. The tie-up is set to make an extraordinary impact in the materials movement by rail in the country, it said. - Our Bureau
