Jet Air to lay off 43 trainee technicians

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 10 Jet Airways has served notices of termination to about 43 trainee junior technicians of its engineering department.

“These personnel are on fixed term contracts and the notices are being issued in accordance with the terms of their contracts and in compliance with law,” the airline has said in a statement.

The step has been taken as part of the airline’s cost restructuring exercise to meet the challenges of the downturn in the aviation sector, the statement said. “This trimming of the workforce has been necessitated by the ongoing rationalisation of the airline’s operations,” the statement added.

An airline spokesperson said although 43 technicians had been asked to leave, some have also been offered work in other departments of the airline.
