Narayana Hrudayalaya’s Rs 100-cr facility in Hyderabad

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, July 10 Narayana Hrudayalaya, a Bangalore-based cardiac hospital, will open a 600-bed facility here in August 2009.

The Rs 100-crore facility would come up at Suraram Cross Roads, Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Hrudayalaya, said here in a statement.

“The facility will focus on congenital heart problems, with a particular focus on children. We will expand to other specialties like orthopaedics and oncology,” he said. Besides, the 3-lakh sq ft facility would have telemedicine facility to offer consultancy services for patients in remote areas.

Dr Shetty said the group would replicate the Bangalore model, where it developed a Health City, in Hyderabad.

The group, which runs a centre in Kolkata, catered to about 12 per cent of all paediatric heart surgeries in India. After Hyderabad, it might open a centre in Visakhapatnam. “We are in talks with the State Government for land in the coastal city,” Dr Shetty said.

“The country required about 25 lakh heart surgeries every year. But all the hospitals put together are able to do only 18,000 surgeries, leaving a huge gap,” he added.
