Chennai, July 10 State Bank of Travancore expects to recruit about 1,200 employees, mostly for clerical grade, this year. The bank has about 11,500 employees.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Mathur K Nanjunda, General Manager – Operations, State Bank of Travancore, said the bank faces a shortage of clerks as there had been no recruitment since 2001. Last year, the bank recruited 400 people.

Expand ATM network

SBT, which has about 3.1 million ATM card users, proposes to double its ATM network from the current 417. It has 729, but most of them are in Kerala. In order to have a better presence in the neighbouring States, it has applied for 60 new branch licences to the Reserve Bank of India.

The bank has set itself an internal target of Rs 1 lakh crore of business for the current year. It ended 2008-09 with total business of Rs 76,100 crore, Mr Nanjunda said.
