CIMA study centre at BIFT

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, June 24

The UK-based Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is setting up a study support centre at Badruka Institute of Foreign Trade (BIFT) here.

“The centre will provide study support to students and working executives who choose to pursue the CIMA courses from certificate course in management accounting to an advanced diploma,” Ms Arati Porwal, Chief Representative, CIMA, told newspersons here on Wednesday.

The full course of CIMA would consist of 15 modules/three years and the global fee would be about Rs 85,000, she said.

The centre, first in Andhra Pradesh and fifth in the country, would take advantage of Badruka’s infrastructure and faculty.

At present CIMA runs study support centres in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Bangalore.

“As per our estimates, India needs 500,000 to one million qualified management accountants. We are also working with a list of employers which includes Price Waterhouse and KPMG which will be useful for our students in finding placements,” Ms Porwal said.

CIMA has 2,500 students in India. About 50 per cent of them are qualified Chartered Accountants and cost and work accountants while commerce students form 30 per cent. Rest of the students are from diverse backgrounds.

Prof G.S. Rao, Director, BIFT, said the institute is offering a parallel training programme for CIMA courses for B.Com students. “We are also running separate programmes for members of ICWAI,” he said.
