ESIC Act may be amended

New Delhi, June 22

The Minister for Labour and Employment, Mr Mallikarjun Kharge, said that the benefits of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme will be extended to the unorganised workers. The Minister was speaking at the inauguration of sub-regional liaison office of International Social Security Association, a wing of International Labour Organisation in the Capital. This would allow unorganised workers to avail themselves the benefits of ESI hospitals. According to Mr Prabhat Chaturvedi, Director-General, ESIC, amendments were being made in the Act to cover unorganised workers. “The bill is likely to be cleared in the upcoming budget session,” he said.
