Remove tax exemption cap on SSIs

Entrepreneurship should not be killed by keeping limitations. Currently, SSI units are exempted from paying excise duties up to Rs 1.5 crore. Successful units cannot grow beyond Rs 1.5 crore.

Even as the metal prices have gone up, the SSI products have to compete with Chinese and Malaysian products flooding the Indian market. This way, SSI units have to retrench after reaching the exemption limits. Salaries, marketing and administrative c osts have also gone up. All the raw materials used in SSI have already attracted duties and other taxes. It is high time to remove limits on SSI and allow them to grow and create more employment opportunities. Give free hand for 10 years and see the phenomenal growth in SSI.

P. Seshanjaneyulu, President,

Anantapur District Chamber of

Commerce and Industry
