New Delhi, June 21 The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will form a CII-India Business Forum (CII-IBF) in the UK shortly. The launch is scheduled to be held this week between 21 and 23 during its annual CEOs’ meet.

Mr Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry, will address the CII-India conference on ‘Managing the Global Crisis’, along with Lord Adair Turner, Chairman, Financial Services Authority, UK.

Mr Venu Srinivasan, President, CII and Chairman, TVS Motor Company, will lead the CII mission. Apart from the economic crisis, the delegation will focus on taking the India-UK ties in a strategic direction and uncovering new avenues of collaboration. It will also address issues such as regulation of the global financial system, climate change and security.

The CII-IBF UK, in partnership with the High Commission of India, UK, will work on a new economic engagement between the two countries.

Top items on the mission agenda include promoting trade and investments, joint efforts towards skill development and higher education, cooperation in advanced manufacturing and exploring emerging business areas such as clean products, nanotechnology and life sciences.

According to the CII, bilateral merchandise trade crossed $12 billion in 2008-09, with services at $5 billion.

A CII paper proposed a target of $40 billion for merchandise trade by 2015 with emphasis on expanding services trade to $12 billion.

A 16-member delegation is to meet with senior political leaders, top administration officials and business heads.
