Agricultural Institutions States - Tamil Nadu Farmers' clubs in Tirunelveli Madurai, June 21 Twelve farmers' clubs were established in Tirunelveli district recently. Promoted jointly by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) and the Pandyan Grama Bank (PGB), the clubs would ensure sustained development of agriculture through provision of credit and by imparting scientific knowledge to agriculturists through proper training, lectures and field visits. Nabard would extend Rs 3,000 a year for three years to each club as maintenance grant and provide also Rs 5,000 each year for conduct of meetings with experts. PGB branches will coordinate to ensure credit support to members. The clubs have been formed with the prime objective of saving the agriculturists from usury, according to Mr J. Suresh, Assistant General Manager, Nabard. - Our Correspondent
