Berger Paints profit down

Kolkata, June 20

Berger Paints India Ltd posted lower profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2009, at Rs 21.49 crore (Rs 23.93 crore in the corresponding period last year) on a higher sales of Rs 352 crore (Rs 336 crore), according to a press release issued by the company. The company's net profit for 2008-09 too, dropped to Rs 88.7 crore from Rs 92 crore in the previous year, despite 12.5 per cent growth in sales at Rs 1,514 crore (Rs 1,346 crore) during the period. The profits, according to company sources, were impacted by high raw material prices in the first-half and the slowdown of the economy in the second-half, prompting the company to reduce prices. The board of directors has recommended a dividend of 60 paise per equity share of Rs 2 each. - Our Bureau
