Foreign Direct Investment States - Karnataka Italian investors urged to look beyond IT Our Bureau Bangalore, June 19 The Karnataka Government has urged Italian investors to look beyond Bangalore’s potential as an information technology hub and appreciate its strengths as a centre of aerospace and precision engineering, while entering into collaborations with Indian business. Addressing a seminar on ‘Cross border investment – funding opportunities in challenging times’ , organised by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Mr Subir Hari Singh, the State Industry and Commerce Secretary, said that Karnataka and Italy can complement their respective economic strengths. Karnataka’s garment industry can reach out to Italy for designs, Mr Singh said. Leather design is an area where Italy can provide expertise, he said. It is surprising that Italy should be the 15th largest foreign direct investor into India, despite being among the world’s leading economies. Citing the State’s advantages as an investor-friendly destination, Mr Singh said that Karnataka has 11 universities, 114 medical colleges and 135 engineering colleges. It is a labour-friendly State with among the least number of mandays lost in the country, he observed. More Stories on : Foreign Direct Investment | Karnataka
